Tuesday news update: Smackdown/ECW tonight and more WWE related news and notes
- Smackdown and ECW tape tonight in Moline, IL with Mark Henry vs. Matt Hardy for the ECW title in a Summerslam rematch announced for ECW.
No matches have been announced for Smackdown at time of writing, although I think its fairly likely we’ll learn of who Triple H will defend his WWE title against (my guess is Big Show) and who will work with Undertaker next. The plan at the weekend was for Edge to be kept off tonight’s show to sell the beating he took at Sunday night’s awesome Hell in a Cell match.
If you’re attending tonight’s Smackdown taping we’re looking for a report or results. You can get in touch at phil@wwepreview.com if you’re able to help us out!
As always, Steve McLaren will have an ECW recap up on the site on Wednesday morning.
- I’ve not yet had the chance to watch last night’s edition of Raw, but the Championship Scramble match does absolutely nothing for me. Todd Martin called it right in his Raw report this morning: it’s TNA-rific.
- We’ll post the Raw rating on the front page of the site either later tonight or early tomorrow morning.
- No further updates on Takeshi Morishima’s appearance last night other than what we reported earlier today. With Morishima and Bryan Danielson both recently working dark matches and also the Scramble match set for Unforgiven next month, has somebody on WWE’s creative team been watching some ROH recently?
- Jim Ross has posted his latest blog, which as always makes for a very good read. On Summerslam’s main event, Ross wrote: “The Hell in a Cell match felt like an instant classic. The Undertaker and Edge waged a physical war. These two syperstars told an epic story and it certainly ranks near the top of any HIAC match I have ever broadcast.
“For me a great match needs a strong storyline and effort and this match definately had those elements in place. Not sure when we might see Edge again after this conflict but his star is brighter than ever. As far as ‘Taker is concerned, who’s been better for the long haul? No one in the WWE for my money.”
Ross also noted that Matt Cappotelli was backstage at Summerslam and wrote: “Enjoyed seeing Matt Cappotelli Sunday who looked great after battling brain cancer for seemingly the longest time. What a great kid who has endured what no one would ever wish on their worst enemy. Matt has taken tons of chemo and radiation and at this time the tumor looks non existent. Matt gets a MRI every other month to monitor any growth of the tumor. I can’t put into words how much I admire Matt’s courage and positive frame of mind.
It goes without saying that we wish Cappotelli the very best as well.
- Former WWE Diva Ashley Massaro has denied being advertised for an appearance at a New York strip club. Writing on her Myspace.com blog, Massaro wrote: “So, first things first. Hey a-holes that said I was appearing at a strip club last week. Dead wrong. I was no where nmear nor will I ever be, doing a SIGNING and or appearance in a strip club, UI actually found it quite funny while I was at home updating my myspace. All of these so called news sites saying I would be there.
“Apparently tmz even wanted to talk about it. So crazy! So, for anybody that actually went there to see me and didn;t, I apologize for the lack of responsibility on many peoples parts. If I had known about this sooner I could have tried to fix it before anyone went there to see me. But alas I was alerted to it probably the same time as you guys. So anyone who went to that place to see me. Sorry you got duped, I’ll be sure to make another app. soon in NY to make up for that.”
