Sunday AM news update: Summerslam tonight, Hardy injury, Triple H on being a father and moving to Smackdown and more

Sunday August 17 BY Phil Lowe

- Summerslam is tonight and as always, we’ll have live PPV coverage on the front page of the site from around 8pm EST/1am UK time. We’ll also have any newsworthy notes ahead of the show throughout the evening, plus we’ll have a full Summerslam preview online at some point this afternoon courtesy of myself, Mark and Michael.

The announced card for tonight is as follows:

- The Undertaker vs. Edge in a Hell in a Cell match
- John Cena vs. Batista
- Triple H vs. The Great Khali for the WWE Title
- CM Punk vs. JBL for the World Heavyweight Title
- Mark Henry vs. Matt Hardy for the ECW Title
- Jeff Hardy vs. MVP
- Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston & Women’s Champion Mickie James vs. Santino Marella & Beth Phoenix with the winner holding both belts.

Shawn Michaels will also make an announcement regarding his future in wrestling.

- An advertised Jeff Hardy vs. MVP for WWE’s house show in Rockford, IL on Friday night never took place. Hardy was also pulled from a personal appearance in Rockford earlier in the day. The reason given for not being at the signing session was that he had broken his neck, which we don’t believe to be the case although the word going round earlier in the week was that he had an elbow problem. At time of writing, tonight’s match with MVP at Summerslam is going ahead. If that changes, we’ll post an update on the front page of the site.

- SLAM! Wrestling have a very good interview with Triple H online at this link, discussing being a father, younger guys in WWE and plenty more. Interestingly, Trips claimed that moving from Raw to Smackdown hasn’t given him more time to spend with his family, which was the general concensus following June’s draft lottery. “It’s actually worse for me,” he said. “When Vince told me, I said I’d go wherever he needed me. It really screws me personally, but we’ll make it work. You know when you get into this line of work you’re going to be gone a lot. It’s really important that the time I get to spend with my family is quality time.”

- Devin Cutting sent along the following: WWE was originally going to hold a tri-branded TV taping on August 31st in St. Louis, Missouri. However, that event has been changed to a Raw & Smackdown taping. Two episodes of ECW will be taped the previous week. Here’s how the schedule looks now:

August 25th in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania - 1 episode of Raw & 1 episode of ECW

August 26th in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - 1 episode of Smackdown & 1 episode of ECW

August 31st in St. Louis, Missouri - 1 episode of Raw & 1 episode of Smackdown

- Ticketmaster has posted ticket info for WWE’s Cyber Sunday PPV in Phoenix, AZ on October 26 at at http://www.ticketmaster.com/artist/1072685

- Colin Delaney has worked his first date since his WWE release, appearing on Friday night for UWA Hardcore in Bolton, Ontario, Canada (thanks to Keith Lipinski).
