Life on the road for a professional wrestler

Sunday August 10 BY Romeo Roselli

I have gotten a lot of great suggestions for articles, so I first want to thank everyone for their input and welcoming me to the team here.

A lot of the suggestions have asked me to talk about “life on the road”, so I will try to give a brief synopsis of how it works to be on the road.

As a professional wrestler, whether your working for the WWE or TNA or independents, you are considered an independent contractor.

In addition, except for the unusual situations here and there, we are responsible for getting and booking our own hotel rooms and rental cars, finding a gym to train at, and trying to get in good, healthy solid meals (well the ones who actually eat healthy meals - and you’d be surprised at how some of the talent eats).

And since we are considered independent contractors, pretty much as soon as you leave your place of residence to travel for a show, everything is considered a tax write off, so keeping proper book keeping and receipts is vital, especially since no taxes are taken out of WWE/TNA checks.

With all this being said, it takes a well organized, professional individual to be on the road, and make a successful living, while increasing your bank account.

I would say for the most part, there is certainly an adjustment period when starting on the road for a full time schedule, which is why it is nice if you can travel with a more experienced worker who can “show you the ropes” so to speak.

In addition, traveling with a veteran can be a valuable learning experience by simply listening to their advice, stories, and experiences.

Oh yea, and in addition to all this hotel room renting, rental car driving, and gym training, you have to squeeze in the actual wrestling part of it too. So for all the traveling, tiredness, book keeping, and organizing, you have to be have enough energy left to perform at the highest level and entertain the heck out of the fans.

Life on the road isn’t always easy, but if you find a good friend or group of friends to travel with, it can be real fun as well.

As you’ve probably heard in the past, if your on the road full time, your probably seeing the other wrestlers more than you are seeing your own family. This is why you have also probably heard that you have to be passionate about this business, because if you don’t love doing this, then it will make it even harder to put up with “the road”.

So you make the best of it, enjoy the life experiences, appreciate being able to travel the world for a living, and finally, respect the business and the talent who came before you who made it possible for you to make a good living.

Thanks for reading and please keep the feedback and suggestions coming.

All my best……….
