Friday AM news update: WWE and TNA to go head-to-head on PPV, plus WWE releases former TNA star

Friday August 8 BY Phil Lowe

- WWE last night announced that former TNA star Chris Harris, who made a couple of appearances on the ECW brand under the name Braden Walker, has been released from his contract.

During his TNA run, Harris looked like he could have been a major player for them as part of America’s Most Wanted.

He left the company and was assigned to WWE’s developmental territory shortly after signing with WWE. After spending some time working dark matches, he made a low-profile debut on ECW where he had an awful debut match with Armando Estrada. His time on TV was as good as non-existant until this week’s edition of ECW where he beat James Curtis in a short match.

There were some in the company who felt that Harris was a strange signing. Although he did have talent, there was always questions over his attitude and his commitment. He had put on weight towards the end of his TNA run and as seen during his brief time in WWE, he had done nothing (at least visibly) to fix that.

 - Devin Cutting sent along word that WWE has changed the date of the Armageddon pay-per-view to December 14 instead of December 21 originally advertised. The show is still scheduled for the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, New York. Ticket information is available at this link. According to TNA’s website, the Turning Point pay-per-view will also be held on December 14.

- We’ll have a second news update available later today, as well as the second of our weekly Roundtable features, which will be up on the front page of the site this evening.
