Monday news update #2: Raw preview, Carlito’s new look, Regal’s return and tons more

Monday July 14 BY Phil Lowe

- Raw takes place tonight from Raleigh, NC with no matches announced at time of writing. With this being the “go home” show before Sunday’s Great American Bash PPV, the show will (hopefully) be pushing the top matches on the Raw brand, those being CM Punk vs. Batista for the World Title, Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho and John Cena vs. JBL in an ‘NYC Parking Lot Brawl’.

My guess is they’ll tape the Cena-JBL brawl in advance of the PPV as I just don’t see them doing the whole thing live for some reason.

As usual we’ll have Todd Martin’s Raw recap up on the front page of the site shortly after the show goes off the air.

- In case you missed it, we’ve already posted one news update today which you can find at this link.

- As some of you reading this are already likely aware, there are pictures floating around the internet of Carlito sporting a new look. Think of the boxer David Haye and you’ve got a good idea of what he looks like. Its a look that he used for a time while in OVW.

- William Regal’s 60-day suspension following his second Wellness Policy violation ends at the end of the week, meaning he could return as soon as this Sunday at the Great American Bash or on Raw the following night.

Am I the only one thinking that the whole McMahon/chaos on Raw angle is being set up nicely for Regal to return as GM?

- Jim Ross posted his latest blog ahead of this week’s TV tapings, and wrote: “I read on the ‘net where Ric was being advertised to appear at Tuesday’s Smackdown taping in his hometown of Charlotte. My money is that this Flair sighting will not be on the broadcast but for the fans in the arena only. But then again, I could be wrong.”

That’s the right thing for WWE to do, in my opinion.

- This isn’t hugely newsworthy really, but Ashley Massaro has amended her MySpace blog, stating that a “family member” is ill rather than her seven-year-old daughter, who she had previously named as being ill and the reason she asked for her release from WWE.

- Former WWE writer Seth Mates has posted his latest Newsday blog looking at WrestleMania XXV and the three main event matches he would book. Its a good read, and you can check it out at this link.
