2008 First-half awards: Worst announcer in the WWE

Saturday July 19 BY WWEPreview.com

Throughout the weekend ahead of our live Great American Bash coverage on Sunday night, we’re posting our half-year awards, looking at the best and the worst of WWE in the first half of 2008.

So far on we’ve posted our awards for the following (click links to view our picks and reasons for them):

- Worst in-ring performer in the WWE
- Least improved wrestler of the year so far
- Worst WWE PPV of the year so far

Our fourth award is for the Worst announcer in the WWE (aka The Adamle Award):

Phil Lowe: The Adamle. $300k a year for that? Bah Gawd, as some would say.

Mark Bright: Jonathan Coachman was worse than Adamle. But yeah really it’s a toss-up between those two. I’m going for Coach because he’d been working in the WWE for ten years and actively made the matches he commentated on significantly less fun to watch (that Undertaker-Edge WrestleMania main event would’ve come across a million times better if JBL was still doing colour for SmackDown, or even if Foley had been introduced earlier), whereas Adamle and his fuckups actually made some terrible ECW matches quite entertaining.

Michael Campbell: Mike Adamle. Isn’t this self-explanatory????

Martin Smith: Mike Adamle. Not just the worst announcer this half year, but one of the worst announcers in wrestling history. Personally, I can’t stand the guy. Whether his act is part gimmick/part reality, we’ll never know. What I do know, however, is that this guy is terrible. Get him away from the headset and put him somewhere else - another planet preferably.

Steve McLaren: Coach. I know this award is going to Adamle but I enjoy his wackiness. Coach on the other hand was bad! When Michael Cole is verbally bitch slapping you and you can’t come back you know you suck.

James Mustoe: Mike Adamle. It’s no competition, as Adamle was a bomb from his first appearance at the Royal Rumble, and somehow only managed to get worse as the year went on. His position on ECW has led to much unintentional comedy, as he constantly reveals himself to have no love for the business, and just no interest in doing his job properly.

RESULTS:

Mike Adamle (4)
Jonathan Coachman (2)
