Best WWE PPV of the year so far:
Phil Lowe: WrestleMania XXIV. Going into this, I had my reservations about some of the card. But all of the money matches were exactly that: money. Flair/Michaels was the best match this year, Edge vs. Undertaker ran them close with a superbly built match, and Floyd Mayweather ended the trend of high-profile celebrities stinking the place out on a wrestling PPV. One of the best WrestleMania events in history for me.
Mark Bright: WrestleMania XXIV. As much as I liked the Royal Rumble and especially the surprise of John Cena’s early comeback, Mania is the highlight of the WWE year.
From Floyd Mayweather and Big Show having a surprisingly entertaining match, to an excellent Money In The Bank stuntshow, to two excellent World Title matches (complete with Charles Robinson sprinting down the aisle but still seeming to take a million years), to the big stadium, to the spectacle, to the fact it was an outdoor show which just made it seem different (and therefore bigger than normal), to the class of the Hall of Fame the night before, there’s nothing that even came close.
Oh yeah, and there was that Flair/Michaels match too.
Michael Campbell: Wrestlemania XXIV. We’ve seen some good one’s, but from a wrestling standpoint, and from the perspective of an overall, great card, this colossal effort wins hands down.
A wacky streetfight. A crazy ladder match, the Best match of the year thus far, a superb main event, a surprising triple threat outcome, a winning celebrity novelty bout, and the lights going out during a dire women’s contest, this had it all. Superb.
One Night Stand, and No Way Out both lose out due to over reliance on gimmicks, the Rumble and Backlash were good, but not that good. They’ll have to go some way to top this Supercard.
Martin Smith: WrestleMania XXIV. A great main event and good under-card - this event had it all. Flair retired, Mayweather and Big Show squared off, Triple H chased the gold, CM Punk defeated the odds to win the MITB and more. One of the best WrestleMania’s in recent memory.
Steve McLaren: Wrestlemania XXIV. That wasn’t hard, I loved the whole show. It featured what I thought was the MOTY in Edge vs. Undertaker, an excellent MITB match, an historic moment with Flair’s last match, the best celebrity wrestling match ever between Floyd Mayweather and Big Show, plus to me it felt like a huge supershow with the arena being outdoors.
James Mustoe: Wrestlemania XXIV had excellent matches in Flair vs. Michaels, Undertaker vs. Edge, Money in the Bank, and John Cena vs. HHH vs. Randy Orton, a much better than expected match between Floyd Mayweather and Big Show, and an entertaining brawl between Finlay and JBL. Everything else was either inoffensive (Batista vs. Umaga) or too short to matter (Chavo Guerrero vs. Kane and the Playboy Bunny match).
RESULTS:
WrestleMania XXIV (6)
