Best announcer in the WWE
Phil Lowe: Jim Ross. He is still awesome. He’s been fired, threatened and dealt some real bum hands from time to time, but Ross is still by far the best in the business. I’m already enjoying his work alongside the ever-improving Mick Foley on Smackdown, and between them they are giving that show a very fresh feel. Raw’s loss was Smackdown’s gain.
Mark Bright: Jim Ross. It’s not even close, despite The Mike Adamle’s best efforts sat behind the ECW Broadcast Thing. Ross is the voice of pro wrestling, and the recent switch of shows with Michael Cole has really hammered that point home.
I’m nowhere near as much of a Cole hater as some, but when you hear Smackdown with Jim Ross on commentary everything seems just that much more important. Raw with Cole just doesn’t feel like the bigtime show it did with Ross there.
Michael Campbell: Jim Ross. Mick Foley has shown great promise, but right now, that’s all it’s been. Michael Cole continues to drift along almost harmlessly, never especially adding to the action, but not doing an Adamle special either.
Lawler is degenerating into Don West territory, and the classic JBL has sadly re-entered the ring. Tazz almost gets the award out of sympathy for the crutch he’s carrying, but it must go to JR, the one guy, who despite the odds, just doesn’t seem replaceable.
Martin Smith: Jim Ross. It’s a pity John Bradshaw Layfield didn’t stay on the Smackdown announce team because he probably would’ve been in with a shout. Jim Ross gets the vote from me - still the best in the business.
Steve McLaren: Jim Ross. No second thought or runners-up here, Jim Ross is the man.
James Mustoe: While Jim Ross has continued to perform at a high standard, I have to give this award to Mick Foley, who came from nowhere to swiftly establish himself as the number one colour commentator in America today. Foley’s passion and experience in the business shines through, and he’s also a likeable character that fans can relate to. The new Smackdown announcing team of Jim Ross and Foley has enormous potential.
RESULTS:
Jim Ross (5)
Mick Foley (1)
